St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church - Who We Are

Brief History

Our congregation was established in the fall of 1907 after a summer of preparation by C.E. Butler, a student from the Theological Seminary at Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. The charter membership of 27 eventually built and worshiped in a new chapel at the corner of sixth avenue and sixth street in 1914. The present church building on Twelfth Avenue just off Eighth Street was dedicated on November 22, 1925. Since then an educational building has been added along with several renovations to the original structure.

In 1965 a five day Pre-School was begun for 3 and 4 year old children and still continues today. The program has expanded some to provide early arival and late pick up care for working families.

St Paul is affliliated with the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America and is a member of the West Virginia-Western Maryland Synod. The synod sponsors Camp Luther held at Camp Caesar located in Cowen, WV each summer for a week of Christian Fellowship for the youth of the synod.

Our congregation participates in the Huntington Area Habitat for Humanity projects, Faith in Action, Huntington Downtown Churches, and the Cridlin Food and Clothing Pantry. Several members of the congregation and the youth of the church volunteer at the local Ronald McDonald House.
